BBL Laser (BroadBand Light): Genetic Level Skin Resurfacing and Flawless Tone Equalization

The effects of time on the skin are not limited to superficial wrinkles. Spots due to sun damage, capillary cracks (redness), loss of elasticity and dull skin tone are the most obvious signs of the aging process. Technological treatments one of the flagships of our category BBL (BroadBand Light), is a revolutionary light therapy that goes beyond standard skin care and reactivates the youth codes in the skin's DNA.

BBL technology, which we offer as Medlook, is an FDA-approved system developed by the world-famous Sciton company and known with the slogan “Forever Young”. Unlike other laser systems, BBL uses broadband light technology to reach different layers of the skin at the same time. In this way, it is one of the rare technologies that can offer both spot, redness and tightening treatment in a single session.

In this comprehensive guide; BBL's “genetic renewal” effect proven by Stanford University, its superiority in spot treatment and anti-aging you will find its place in the world in all its scientific details.

What is the BBL and how does it work? (Youth Light)

BBL (BroadBand Light) is not technically a laser, but an advanced IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) technology that has a wider spectrum than a laser. However, it is popularly known as “BBL Laser” due to its power and effectiveness. While lasers produce light at a single wavelength (single color), BBL emits light energy in a wide wavelength range (400-1400 nm). This feature allows the physician to intervene simultaneously in different problems of the skin (melanin, hemoglobin or water) by changing filters.

Stanford University Research: Reprogram Your Genes

The most important feature that distinguishes BBL from all other light systems is its effect at the molecular level. Stanford University In clinical studies, it has been proven that the gene expression (the way genes work) of older skin cells undergoing regular BBL changes in a way that is similar to that of younger skin cells.

As a result of the research, it was observed that BBL treatment “turns off” genes associated with aging and “activates” genes associated with youth and regeneration. This means that the skin of patients who undergo BBL not only “looks younger” but also “behaves younger” biologically. The “Forever Young BBL” protocol we apply at Medlook is based on this scientific basis.

Medlook BBL Application Areas and Protocols

Thanks to its versatile heads and interchangeable smart filters, BBL offers solutions to multiple skin problems in the same session. Medlook physicians can combine the following protocols according to your skin's needs:

1. Spot Treatment (Hyperpigmentation)

Sun spots (lentigo), age spots and freckles are the areas where BBL is most successful. The light energy targets the melanin that gives the spot its color. The heated melanin is broken down. In the days following the procedure, these spots appear on the skin surface like “coffee grounds” and fall off spontaneously within 7-10 days. The result is smooth and even-toned skin. For more information on this subject spot treatment You can check our page.

2. Treatment of Redness and Capillaries (Rosacea)

BBL is the gold standard for the treatment of persistent facial redness, broken capillaries and Rosacea. The light energy targets the oxy-hemoglobin in the dilated vessels close to the surface. The heated vessel walls shrink and disappear. The skin tone calms down and gains a “porcelain” appearance.

3. Forever Clear BBL (Active Acne Treatment)

It is a special protocol developed for acne patients who do not want to use medication or who seek support for medication. It works in three stages:
* Blue Light: Destroys *P. acnes* bacteria that cause acne.
* Yellow/Red Light: It dries the inflammation and removes redness.
* Infra-Red Light: Accelerates the skin's healing mechanism.

4. SkinTyte (Skin Tightening)

In this mode, using the infra-red wavelengths of the BBL, the lower layers (dermis) are deeply heated while the skin surface is protected. This heat shortens and tightens collagen fibers and triggers new collagen production. It is especially effective for loosening in the neck, jowl (jawline) and abdomen.

Step-by-Step BBL Treatment Process

BBL is a comfortable procedure known as a “lunch break procedure” that does not interrupt social life. The process at the Medlook clinic proceeds as follows:

Preparation

The skin is cleansed of makeup and dirt. Male patients are asked to shave if the facial area is to be treated. Special metal glasses are worn to protect the eyes from strong light.

Application (Gel and Light)

Ultrasound gel is applied to the skin to transmit light and provide cooling. The BBL head is brought into contact with the skin. The sapphire crystal head minimizes pain by continuously cooling the skin (Cooling System). When the shot is fired, the patient feels a brief sensation of warmth and “rubber bumps”. This sensation lasts for seconds and anesthesia is usually not needed.

Post Process View

Immediately after the procedure, a slight pinking of the skin and a feeling of heat is normal; this will disappear within 1-2 hours. If spot treatment has been performed, existing spots will darken (turn black) immediately after the procedure. This is the first sign that the treatment was successful.

Recovery Process

The spots are pushed to the surface of the skin within 3-4 days and slight crusting may occur (micro-crusting). These crusts should never be picked off. In 7-10 days, these crusts fall off spontaneously when washing the face and spotless, bright skin emerges from underneath. Social life can be resumed immediately, only high factor sunscreen is essential.

Why Medlook BBL Technology?

BBL is not just a device, it is a protocol that turns into an art in the right hands. The expected genetic effect cannot be obtained from the procedures performed with low-power IPL devices, which are offered in the market under the name of “BBL” but are not original Sciton technology.

Our difference as Medlook:

  • Original Technology: Sciton BBL Hero and Forever Young modules are used in our clinic.
  • Physician Specialization: Filter (wavelength) selection and dosage adjustment suitable for your skin type are made by our medical physicians.
  • Holistic Approach: You can combine BBL treatment with other treatments such as mesotherapy or PRP. regenerative therapies we increase efficiency by combining them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the BBL procedure painful?

BBL is a very comfortable procedure thanks to the advanced sapphire cooling head. Most of our patients describe the sensation as "a slight warmth on the face" or "a thin tire hitting the skin". There is no need to use painkillers after the procedure.

When will I see the results?

After 1 week after the first session, it is clearly seen that the skin tone is equalized, blemishes are reduced and the skin glows. However, for permanent and in-depth results (collagen increase and genetic renewal), a course of 3 sessions 3-4 weeks apart is generally recommended.

Is the BBL in summer?

BBL is a light treatment and is sensitive to the melanin pigment. Therefore, the procedure is not performed if you have an active tan on your skin or if you are going on vacation and sunbathing immediately after the procedure. The ideal time is when contact with the sun is more controlled. However, it can be performed with the approval of a doctor in people who do not actively sunbathe in summer and use high protection (SPF 50+).

How long does the effect last?

The results obtained in spot and vein treatments are permanent; however, if you do not protect your skin from the sun, new spots may form. For the anti-aging (Forever Young) effect, according to Stanford studies, 1-2 maintenance sessions per year can postpone the aging process of the skin for years.

Is it done on the same day as Botox or fillers?

Yes, it is suitable for combination treatments. Usually BBL is applied first, then after waiting for the skin to calm down Botox or filling procedures can be performed. This will be planned by our physician.
