We Can't Stop Time, But We Can Erase Its Traces
Throughout history, hair has been one of the most important symbols of strength, youth and aesthetics for both women and men. However, hair is not only a visual accessory but also a biological indicator that reflects the general health status of our body. Hair loss, called “Alopecia” in the medical literature, is a multifaceted health problem that can occur with many different triggers ranging from genetic factors to hormonal changes, nutritional deficiencies to intense stress.
Anagen (Growth) Phase: Saçın aktif olarak uzadığı, köklerin en sağlıklı olduğu ve 2 ila 6 yıl süren evredir. Sağlıklı bir saçlı derideki saçların %85-90’ı bu evrededir.
Catagen (Regression) Phase: It is a short transition period lasting about 2-3 weeks, when the hair stops growing and prepares to separate from the root.
Telogen (Rest and Shedding) Phase: It is the phase in which the hair is removed from the skin and a new hair begins to form in its place. It lasts an average of 3 months.
Losing 50 to 100 strands of hair a day is a natural result of this cycle and should not be a concern. However, if you see a large number of hairs on your pillow every morning, if the shower drain is clogged, if your hair has lost volume (thinning of the ponytail) or has started to open up (coin-sized gaps), this indicates that the hair cycle is disrupted and requires a clinical intervention.
The Life Cycle of Hair: When Does Hair Loss Become a "Problem"?
To understand hair loss, one must first understand the natural life cycle of the hair. Each hair strand is born, grows, rests and falls out, just like a living organism. This cycle consists of three basic phases:
- Alopecia Areata (Hair Breakage): Round or oval patchy hair loss caused by the immune system attacking the hair follicles.
- Cicatricial Alopecia Permanent damage to the hair follicles as a result of skin diseases or burns and replacement by scar tissue.
Hair Loss Types and Clinical Classification
The success of treatment depends on the correct classification of the type of hair loss:
- Male Pattern Baldness: It is graded on the Norwood scale. It starts by pulling back the front hairline.
- Female Pattern Hair Loss: It is classified by the Ludwig scale. The anterior hairline is usually preserved but there is diffuse thinning of the crown.
Main Causes of Hair Loss
Hair loss can be due to a single cause or a combination of multiple factors. The most common causes we encounter in our detailed analyzes at Medlook clinic are as follows:
1. Genetic Predisposition (Androgenetic Alopecia)
It is the most common cause of hair loss in both men and women. In men, it is usually characterized by the opening of the temples and thinning of the crown (M-type hair loss), while in women it is characterized by the widening of the hair parting line and general thinning. This is due to the genetic hypersensitivity of hair follicles to DHT (Dihydrotestosterone), a derivative of the male hormone testosterone.
2. Hormonal Imbalances
Hormones in our body directly manage hair growth. Especially thyroid gland diseases (Hypothyroidism/Hyperthyroidism), polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), insulin resistance, pregnancy, postpartum period and menopause are major factors that trigger hair loss.
3. Nutritional Deficiencies and Vitamin Deficiencies
The hair follicle has the fastest dividing cells of the body and therefore needs high energy. Iron deficiency anemia, vitamin B12, folic acid, zinc, biotin and vitamin D deficiencies impair hair nutrition. Our Dietitian at Medlook, Uzm. Dyt. Sernaz Çakır Ercil identifies the micronutrient deficiencies necessary for hair health and supports the treatment process with personalized nutrition programs.
4. Stress and Trauma (Telogen Effluvium)
5. Improper Cosmetic Practices and External Factors
Environmental factors such as frequent blow-drying, exposing the hair to excessive heat, chemical dyes, tight collection models (Traction Alopecia) and air pollution disrupt the structure of the hair and cause hair loss.
Medlook Diagnosis Process: Check-Up and Analysis
Instead of a standard procedure, we conduct a personalized diagnostic process for each client who applies to our clinic. We proceed with the principle of “There is no rote treatment, there is the patient”.
- Dermatoscopic Hair Analysis: The scalp, follicle number, hair strand thickness and skin health are examined with high-resolution devices.
- Blood tests and biochemical evaluation: Vitamin deficiencies, iron stores and hormonal parameters that can cause hair loss are checked.
- Anamnesis and Lifestyle Questioning: Stress factors, dietary habits and medications are assessed.
Holistic Treatment Methods: Medical and Supportive Practices
At Medlook Polyclinic, hair loss treatment is not limited to a single method. Combined treatments are applied according to the needs of the patient.
1. Hair Mesotherapy
It is the injection of a mixture of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and surface-expanding drugs needed by hair follicles directly into the middle layer of the scalp with micro-needles. This method gives much faster and more effective results than oral supplements. It increases blood circulation and stimulates dormant follicles.
2. PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) Treatment
It is the process of applying plasma rich in growth factors obtained from the person's own blood to the scalp. It accelerates tissue regeneration, thickens the hair shaft and slows down hair loss. Since it is a natural method, there is no risk of allergy.
4. IV (intravenous) Vitamin Therapies
It is the injection of tissue suspension taken from healthy hair follicles behind the ear into thinning areas. It is a single-session application and offers highly effective results in genetic hair loss.
3. Stem Cell Therapy
As part of our holistic approach to medicine, we use a holistic approach to support hair health from the inside IV Glutathione, Vitamin C or Biotin supplements are applied. These treatments reduce oxidative stress in the body and protect hair follicles from free radicals.
5. Ozone Therapy
It accelerates blood circulation by increasing oxygenation in the scalp, eliminates skin problems such as fungus and eczema and creates a healthy ground on which the hair can hold on.
Permanent Solution Hair Transplant
If the hair follicles have completely lost their vitality and cannot be reversed with medical treatments, the most effective and permanent solution is hair transplantation. Within Medlook, hair transplantation operations are performed with the most up-to-date technologies.
- Sapphire FUE Technique: It is a method in which canal opening is performed with sapphire tips, healing time is very fast and tissue trauma is minimized.
- DHI (Direct Hair Implantation): It is a method that allows unshaven transplantation, in which channel opening and transplantation are performed simultaneously with special pens (Choi Pen). It is frequently preferred for tightening transplants and female patients.

The Relationship Between Nutrition and Hair Health
Your hair is nourished by what you eat. Insufficient protein intake, iron deficiency and excessive sugar consumption accelerate hair loss. In the treatments we apply in our clinic, we support the process with the “Hair Friendly Nutrition Program” prepared by our Dietician Sernaz Çakır Ercil. In this program;
- Sources of quality protein for keratin production,
- Omega-3 fatty acids for sebum balance,
- Foods containing zinc and vitamin A are emphasized for cell regeneration.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Pain sensation is minimized thanks to local anesthetic sprays or creams applied before the procedure. Our patients usually feel only a slight sensation of a fly bite during the procedure.
Yes, when the stress factor is eliminated and necessary supportive treatments (PRP, Mesotherapy, etc.) are applied, the hair usually regains its former volume within 6-9 months in Telogen Effluvium type hair loss.
There is no medical concept of "best season" for hair transplantation. However, since it is necessary to protect from the sun and avoid excessive sweating for the first 10 days after the operation, the period when the person is most suitable for social life should be preferred.
Our genetic codes cannot be changed, but the process of hair loss can be significantly slowed down and delayed. With regular medical treatments and preventive practices, the life of existing hair can be prolonged and the formation of openings can be prevented.
