Every technological innovation brings with it great promises. Long Hair FUE (Unshaved Hair Transplant) The aesthetic world has also created a great excitement with the promise of “Invisible Healing” and “Instant Results”. However, no medical procedure is perfect. Every advantage has a price (cost or duration), every comfort has a difficulty.

Istanbul Nisantasi Medlook Polyclinic transparency towards our patients is our biggest principle. In this article, we will not only praise the Long Hair FUE method, we will also put the other side of the coin (its challenges and disadvantages) on the table. Our goal is to let you see the whole map before embarking on this premium journey.

Advantages of Long Hair FUE: Why So Popular?

The common motivation of our patients (especially business people and screen faces) who prefer this method is “Time and Privacy”. Here are the pluses that will attract you:

1. Comfort of “Nobody Understood” (Privacy)

In classic transplantation, the bandages and shaved skin on your head shout “I had a hair transplant!”. In Long Hair FUE, the donor area (nape) is not shaved, only the hair is taken from between. The transplantation area (crown) is also not shaved. Your existing hair covers the procedure area. When you go to work the next day, no one will realize that you have had an operation.

2. “Preview” Facility

In the classical method, you wait 1 year to see the result. In Long Hair FUE, the moment the operation is over, you look in the mirror and see yourself 1 year later. The direction, angle, density of the hair... Everything is obvious. There are no surprises.

3. Continuing Social Life

The healing process (scabbing) is biologically present but invisible. Long hair camouflages the scabs. No need to postpone meetings, weddings or invitations.

Disadvantages of Long Hair FUE: What Should You Consider?

But what is the price of this comfort? Here are the challenges you need to know before making a decision:

1. Higher Cost

This process is the “manual labor” of hair transplantation. While 1000 grafts are collected in 1 hour in classical FUE, this number drops to 300 in order to remove long hair without breaking it. Special equipment and high-level physician labor increase the cost 2-3 times.

2. Long Operation

For the same number of grafts, you need to sit in the chair longer. For example, while 4 hours is enough for 1500 grafts in the classical method, this time can reach 7-8 hours in Long Hair FUE.

3. Limited Number of Grafts (No Mega Sessions)

If your baldness area is very large (4000-5000 grafts needed), it is impossible to cover it in a single session with this method. Maximum 1500-2000 grafts can be taken. For more, a 2nd day or 2nd session is required.

4. Maintenance Difficulty

Long transplanted hair is difficult to care for in the first 10 days. When washing, dressing or sleeping, the hair should not get stuck or tangled. You should be more delicate compared to classical transplantation.

Risks What Can Go Wrong in Long Hair Transplantation?

Every surgical procedure carries risks. The risks specific to Long Hair FUE are:

  • Root Trauma When pulling long hair, the root can be damaged (in inexperienced hands). This reduces the retention rate. At Medlook, this risk is minimized with special “Grooved Punch” tips.
  • Tangling (Tangling): Hair may become tangled during washing and the root may be dislodged. First 10 days washing protocol must be followed to the letter.
