Post PCL Filling Process: Edema, Care and Side Effect Management

You left the clinic with a new face and a youth guarantee that will last between 1 and 4 years. PCL Filler (Smart Filler) is a more technological and powerful procedure compared to classical fillers. However, this power may require a little more care after the procedure. “How much will my face swell?” or “Will there be lumps?” are the most critical points of this process. Process after PCL filling, If managed correctly, it can be comfortable; if mismanaged, it can be anxious.

Istanbul Nisantasi Medlook Polyclinic we believe that the success of the procedure continues after leaving the clinic. Although PCL does not require constant massage like PLLA (Sculptra), it has its own rules. In this guide, we explain what you will experience from the first 24 hours to the first month, how to reduce edema quickly and how to prevent possible side effects (nodules, etc.).

First 24 Hours Edema Management

PCL filler can cause slightly more edema than conventional fillers, both due to its own volume and its carrier gel (CMC). This does not mean “overfilling”, it is the natural reaction of the tissue.

  • Cold Compress Klinikten çıkar çıkmaz, saat başı 10 dakika buz uygulaması (cilde direkt değdirmeden) yapın. Bu, ödemin %50’sini engeller.
  • High Cushion On the first night, sleep on your back with a double pillow. Keep your head above heart level so that you do not wake up “like a balloon” in the morning.
  • Water Consumption: Drink plenty of water. The body needs water to remove edema.
  • No Touch Do not touch the injection sites (needle holes) with water or hands for at least 6 hours. This rule is essential to minimize the risk of infection.

Is Massage Necessary? (The Biggest Difference with PLLA)

Let us clear up the confusion here: PLLA (Sculptra) then a “5-5-5 massage” is a must. However HOME MASSAGE is generally NOT recommended after PCL (Smart Filler).

Why? Because the PCL filler is shaped and set in place by your doctor during the procedure. Unconscious pressure at home can displace or disrupt the shape of the filling. Do not apply harsh pressure on your face unless your doctor says otherwise.
